It all started with a Ring. On June 16th, 2007, Daryl Acumen walked into a jewelry store and purchased an 18 carat gold wedding band. He'd had it! His faith and his heart were beginning to fail him. After yet another dissapointing breakup, he was beginning to wonder if he would ever find lasting happiness with a woman he could tolerate and who could in return tolerate him.
Although Daryl still believed that "The One" was out there someplace, he was beginning to doubt his ability to recognize her when she walked into his life. Anything short of a flashing red sign would be too subtle. He needed help and prayer seemed to be the only solution. With ring in hand, he knelt down in his living room and had a conversation with God. It went something like this:
"God, This is ridiculous and I've had it. If you really want me to find true love in this lifetime, then you're going to have to chip in a little. This wedding ring is my ultimatum. I'm going to wear it every day until I find the one I'm supposed to be with. The wrong ones will be scared away by it. Your job is to make sure the right one isn't. Don't screw it up!"
Just before noon on Saturday morning one week later, Daryl was awakened by a knock at the front door. "God..., this better be important," he exclaimed as he hurridly got dressed and stomped down the stairs to answer. The caller that morning turned out to be Shirley Frazier, a beautiful single mother from across town who had recently decided to start dating again.
After ten years off the market, Shirley finally decided that it was time to look for lasting happiness. This particular morning however, it wasn't happiness shirley was looking for, but her Son! She was driving around Cedar Hills trying to find him when suddenly she spotted 3818 Morgan Blvd. Convinced, by some unseen force, that this little green townhouse on the side of a mountain looked exactly like the single family home across town at which her son was staying, she got out of her car and knocked on the door.
After a long conversation on the front porch, Daryl invited Shirley inside for a look around. Under normal circumstances Shirley would have politely declined, but at the last moment she caught a glimpse of something that comforted her; a little gold wedding band. Reassured that a wife was somewhere about and that it was safe, Shirley smiled and walked in...
